Now that you are a civilian, would you care to shed light on what you *really* think about the clown bashing thread(s)? -g-

Well, at one point, I was about one sideways glance away from terminating the accounts of a few participants (who know who they are) because of the rampant "We're geniuses and the following folks are utter morons:" mentality, especially when it was spreading throughout the site and suspensions were being handed out left and right, but overall it's orders of magnitude better now.

A month or so ago I would've characterized it as "Still a minor problem but still improving, so I'll leave it alone".

I'm not up to date on the doings of this and a lot of other threads anymore. I'm taking time for other things; this afternoon was spent largely in starting excavation of 3 1930's cars buried on my land, just because I wanna see what they are.

My belief that civil discourse can be heated but should never include personal attacks wasn't just my "official position". It's what I personally believe. For my part, when I see someone engage in a personal attack, it reduces their credibility and it could be quite a while before I'll give any credence to anything they say.

While I have a personal problem with group efforts to discredit other posters by engaging in name-calling and other kinds of ugliness, it's not the problem it once was.

So, my personal view isn't much different from my official one.
