Dipy, The solution to your gas bill lies in the East Lost Hills play and the potential wisdom of your state to throw the left into the ocean - unless of course you want to confiscate private property for your personal convenience. In that case you may have some short term benefit - but oh, you will freeze in the dark eventually. Oh well, in California - at least in the dark. Enjoy the democrats - a nice display of Algore environmentalism at work.

Dipy,

You're right that natural gas prices are the immediate problem but when you dig past the surface you find the root of the problem. Much of California's native power plants burn natural gas to generate electricity. This forces deep shortages of natural gas as power plants compete with homes and businesses for their heating needs.

Electricity rates are being artificially held low by price limits. So you have not felt the true impact of the electricity problem, yet. However, this summer the situation will reverse as demand for gas drops off and we see peak demands for electricity that we can't produce enough of. Furthermore, next winter or perhaps sooner we will be hit with the double whammy of high prices for both gas and electricity. You haven't seen anything yet.

Power plants in California burn natural gas because of the eco-fraud terrorism that goes on in this state. If we had more nuclear power plants we could produce electricity for a base cost of about $0.02 per KHW compared to the $0.35 or so we would be charged now if not for price controls.

But the only solutions you hear from the idiots in Sacramento is to build more power plants that operate on natural gas. How smart is that when we face shortages now?

Nuclear power is the ONLY solution to this mess. But eco-frauds have made it politically impossible to consider. Their fear is founded not in science because science has found reasonable solutions to the concerns. But their fear is founded in stupidity.
