William B. Kohn, I am very sorry you are unable to see "the connection ", between " medical " and the market. Perhaps this will re-invigorate your vision: Wall Street Jour. had a complete insert/section on this a couple of days ago because they thought it was that important to business and the market. Amongst other things they stated that " a large part of Americans' fat paycheck 1994 - 2000 was due to lower health costs and them cashing in the difference ". Health inflation was near zero. The problem now the Journal says is that, "-Health inflation is rising rapidly. -The HMO part that was most responsible for zero inflation, limiting care, is now out the window: People can choose the doctor and what test to have. Cost containment is out the door." And the latest gloom and doom from Mercer in Medical " Employee health costs rise 8.1% in 2000; double-digit rise forecast for 2001 " wmmercer.com And this is only the beginning Bill.If we get a Drug Plan for seniors and The Biotechs have their way, get ready to apply for Welfare. There exists a whole world outside of engineering William. Worth taking a look at it from time to time ( if for no other reason than to avoid painful surprises such as getting caught in current market decline, which is due to higher PPI and CPI, which is due to higher energy and medical . I really wish you had the common courtesy to start your own thread and debate the issue there. It is rude to bother people with stuff they simply don't care about, even if you think they should care about it. Be a good SI member and post things where they belong! I am getting fed up. Bill
