Just speculation on my part, but it seems to me that Nortel is not making a serious effort to compete in internet core routers or edge routers or aggregation switches. Their work on Packet Core and OPTera Connect PX may be the reason. I discovered this little excerpt from an article in the Montreal Gazette.

"Another product due out this year is an optical switch - the Optera Packet Core, presently in trials with an undisclosed carrier. This terabit router has been in development for more than four years. Company officials claim it will be unique in its ability to allow multiple routers in different locations to act as a single routing device."
