Actually, I was thinking in terms of the downsizing in the auto industry. Jim was assuming that higher gas prices and our love of SUVs would override any concerns for the ANWR.

But in the seventies (I think late 70's,)what happened is the American auto industry emulated the Japanese and created compact cars. And that well could happen now which provides us with an alternative to drilling the ANWR.
