You might be able to apply that logic to a variety of jobs.

How about salesmen and agents? They help bring buyers together with sellers. It helps keeps prices low. They help provide liquidity in their respective markets. Are you ready to dismiss them?

How about soldiers? At the end of the day all they did was act as a deterrant to attack. They haven't created anything.

And there's the people you would find riding in the B-Ark. <ggg>

A lot of the software that I've written over the years has been replaced with newer software running on newer faster machines. Were my efforts wasted since some of the software was never used at all (I hope)?

"Round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away."

I'll play devil's advocate...

Pit a trader sitting in a darkened room, alone, in front of a computer, 10 to 12 hours a day, with nothing to show at the end of the day..... against a bricklayer, or policeman, or teacher, or doctor, or accountant...and then ask what possible contribution trading makes to society.

The bricklayer that builds a crematorium... A policeman abusing civil rights.... A teacher violating children.... A doctor performing euthanasia without even the patient's consent (shameful, I say)... or the accountant laundering money. Give me a trader who sits in his room all day long in front of the computer. He can't harm me or my family.

Obviously, I've got too much time on my hands.
