DEC had (and CPQ therefore has) a bunch of people who are very interested in the loosely coupled supercomputing model and Linux has been their operating system of choice because they can quickly tailor it as needed. The rendering farm put together for "Titanic" was Alphas running Linux. That team also did the first 64 bit Linux in 1995.

That work is more of academic interest than business interest. I would expect Sun to put the energy into a cluster which would be useful in a larger business environment.
