Companies are quick to promote the positive aspects of their business, so I would guess that the story on royalties/licensing for SNDK is not good. If not, how to explain the silence?

Regards,

Knip

"Aus, concerning royalties/licensing, SNDK is very silent. I've sent two fax letters and made three
phone calls to Calderoni, but haven't heard a peep in more than two weeks. Will advise if I hear anything."

Art,

I think there are a myriad of possibilities...

1) '987 licenses are negotiated, but not finalized so
discussing them is both premature and unwise.

2) SanDisk is waiting for the CF and MMC standards to
gain a solid foothold before enforcing '987 patents.

3) The large collection of CF assemblers using Hitachi's
C-series controller are balking at licenses.

4) Half of the CF assemblers are willing to sign on while
the other half is contesting. SanDisk can't announce
anything until everyone is on board for fear of revealing
that some assemblers are contesting '987.

5) SanDisk is waiting to announce CF and MMC licensees
jointly since both are founded on '987 and most assemblers
will produce both card form factors.

6) '987 is unenforceable.

7) SanDisk doesn't plan on announcing anything one way or the other.

8) Potential licensees are looking into licenses from Lexar Media
before signing on with SanDisk (comparison shopping).
