I'm actually working on some of the upcoming WLAN stuff. It's going to be epic when it finally does roll out. However, the service provider titans are going to have to learn to squeeze their suppliers as Home Depot has done to theirs. Would HD pay 70%+ margins to its suppliers? Hell no. But T, WCOM, VZ all gladly pay 70% margins to their suppliers, who pay 95% margins to their semiconductor suppliers. These guys have got to wise up in order for the 3G network to happen at a price that the average man can afford.

There's nothing fundamental in the cost that prevents its rollout. But, at the present prices and given the present capital market environment, something's got to break before it can happen.
