Wow- I can really agree with that. I know Rambi and I both feel that way. Because we have a respect for life- we hate to see unwanted lives brought into being, because so many of those unwanted lives persist in such miserable circumstances.

Thank you so much for posting that.

Thanks for posting that. That's what I was looking for last weekend when I finally admitted defeat on getting the two sides together and discovered beauty in the stalemate.

Would you please post it on the boxing thread. I didn't know if it would be a good idea to link from that thread to this one.

Karen

I don't think many people are more pro-Life than I am. I guess I feel that the Christian extremists got away with a really good name.

Heck, I'm so pro-Life that I hate killing ants and am a vegetarian. In fact, I'm on record as saying the pro-Life position is the stronger philosophical argument (in pure, abstract terms).

The irony is that the Right to Lifers will fight tooth and nail to ensure that a fetus is born into hopelessness, yet not blink an eye while that child goes on to complete its development in a disadvantaged environment. I'll have to join X in her head scratching on this front.

BTW, has anyone seen a breakdown of abortion by race, socioeconomic class and age? I'd be interested to see some authoritative statistics on who is actually having the abortions. I've got my money on middle-class white girls.

Really good, YYB! I've believed this for 25 years. It is not far away now. Many of the religious side will accept contraceptives, but not birth control; And there will always be some that will claim the mere prevention of conception is evil, sinful, etc.

The article making reference to non biological families is interesting, eh? I haven't thought about this. Is this the next huge socially devisive issue looming in 2015?! I wonder what percentage of people are really capable of going there. Some would say it is a direct clash with evolutionary imperatives. It certainly sounds like brave thinking. I hope other links can be turned up.

I'm thinking of this in a broader sense than adoption, etc., but rather as a more open and porous social order somewhat like certain native cultures valued at one time (and likely still do). I have a brother married to a Native where extended family and friends are almost indistinguisable from direct family. You visit, you stay, or you go, whatever. If you're still there the next day you'll probably ending up doing family stuff like taking the kid to hockey practice, or picking up grub at the store. There are almost no formalities...no categories.

That is wonderful. It should be posted elsewhere on SI, too.
