Well I finally got my whole system back up and running, Thanks for all the help. But after reformatting reloading and all the other stuff..Which has been quite the learning experience I might add... My original problem is back...The computer freezes up without warning and the only way to get it back is to reboot... All was not for Nothing though... While I was stuck in 16 colors everything was fine... When I downloaded the latest driver for my video card( Note I did not use my disk told it was better to download the latest driver)and then updated to 256 colors Boom it froze... then again and again... went back to 16 colors and no freeze... I think it is the video card "Elsa Gladiac" not the driver"GFORCE2" because I downloaded the driver this time...Any suggestions would be appreciated...
BTW The suggestion "Buy A new Video card" Has already come to mind...
Thanks again..
Steve

follow up on Dr. Hardware 2000....

well, as promised, here's a report on having installed the hardware analyzer. i went to the doc's website and found that there is a 2001 version out now, so i downloaded and installed that. then the readme.txt file popped up and here's what it says:

*********************************

"Dr. Hardware 2001 - Very important information

Please read the following important notes before
starting the program for the first time:

Visit our homepage: dr-hardware.com
Here you will find the latest shareware versions
and get online support.

This program is operating very close to the hardware.
Therefore you may encounter problems running some
of the tests including severe exception errors
(Blue screens), general protection faults (GPFs),
program errors; the system may hang or reboot after
performing tests.
As far as we know from user reports there is no
reason to expect permanent damages coming out of
these problems. In most cases they don´t occur at all.

However if you want to exclude all risks you should
not install and run this program.

Close all open files (especially data files like text
documents) before running the program. If not data might
get lost when the system crashes or hangs
. Also close
DOS applications and other background tasks before
running the program. If not clock and benchmark
measuring will be affected dramatically. In order to
get the best viewing results switch to a resolution of
800 x 600 with 256 colors or better and small system font.

Always look at the status line of the program. A red
shining lamp indicates that the program is working."

********************************

yuck! bad words in there. uninstall! uninstall!

hasta la vista, dr.hardware

:)
