I wish I didn't have to, but the public schools suck. <<<<< Agreed, Now we need to figure out why they suck. I don't see how reducing funding for the public schools is going to attract better teachers.<<<<<<< And I don't see how blaming the public schools problems upon the teachers will fix all of the problems not associated to teacher quality. In fact, most private schools pay their teachers less than public schools, because the teachers unions are much stronger in the public schools and offer greater benefits than private schools. If we were to say that pay determines the quality of education, then I say we should pay our teachers the same amount of pay that the countries who have a better school system pay theirs. I would have no problem paying our teachers what Vietnamese teachers get; or Korean, or Japanese or almost any other country you can name. Since you say private schools are doing a better job of teaching your children, shouldn't you be lobbying for higher pay for the private school teachers, and vouchers would allow the private schools to pay their teachers on par with public school systems. <<<<<<<<I would like to see them fixed, so that I could send the little guys to the beautiful little elementary school across the street.<<<<<<< I also would like to see the public schools fixed. To get them fixed is going to take one hell of a lot more than a pay raise. The schools will never be fixed until we force the issue by cutting off their pay, until the problems are addressed. The threat of private schools is the only thing that will force the politicians, the beaurocrats, the unions, and the parents to make the necessary changes.
