Joe,

re: "True, but the .13u version of P4 will have to compete with the next generation of AMD processor - Clawhammer, which will have approximately the same die size, but will include 64bit support."

And the P4 will not have any advantages over Clawhammer?

re: "It will, but it will only match current .18u Athlon in performance, and AMD is moving to .13u as well, shortly after Intel. Even when Intel has all the weapons deployed, it will be a horse race at best."

It sounds like Intel may be winning the horse race.

John

Joe, <Clawhammer, which will have approximately the same die size, but will include 64bit support.>

You forgot to mention that x86-64 support will require a new OS specifically written for that architecture, not to mention recompiled applications to take advantage of the x86-64 expanded register files, etc.

Heh, and to think that the AMDroids said that no one will ever want to recompile applications.

By the way, we still haven't heard whether Clawhammer already taped out or not. You'd think that even the YUK Register would hear about it the moment the base layers are sent to the fabs?
