Took several add-on side trips on the cruise. One is the scenic railway out of Skagway. Another was a salmon bake in Juneau. We figured out the recipe and now use it at home. Highlight was a helicopter flight onto the Mendenhall glacier in Juneau. If you want to do this sign up early as seats are limited. My wife rates this the experience of her life. Was unhappy with offerings to see totem poles in Ketchikan - we could see about a third of what was there. So we got off the ship, called a local rent-a-car co. and negotiated a good deal. They picked us up and we saw all we wanted to see and saved a lot of money in the process. We dined at a local place on the harbor, sat out on a deck and watched boats and float planes come and go. Bald eagles landed on the pilings supporting the deck. It was heaven.
