Joe Smith: Thanks for your comments. It is precisely because a well-diversified portfolio that I have held since the beginning of the year has NOT worked well and was showing increasing losses and fewer winners that I bailed out and decided to stay on the sidelines. When nothing reasonable seems to be working, I think one must resist the compulsion to "be in the market".

Perhaps I took it to an extreme, but I see few catalysts for the tech sector over the next three months and the Fed rate cuts won't have an effect on technology spending and investment until much later this year. Of course, I am not rigid in my thinking and if the market outlook brightens, I have a list of stocks I will be re-entering. At this point, however, when nothing (aside from being short) seems to be working, doing nothing isn't all that bad an option.
