Do we have any German speakers on the thread who can monitor what has been written in Germany about BMW annoucement?

I have a copy of the February, 2001 Roundel (official monthly publication of the BMW Car Club of America, Inc.). There are a few interesting articles.

The first article (begins on Page 27), "Automotive Rocket Science" highlights some of BMW's more interesting research technologies.... and they all use electrical power! Technologies discussed include: Active Front Steering, Electronic Brake Management, and Steer-by-Wire. 42-volt electrical power is mentioned.

The second article (P. 38), "BMW Gets Juiced" has a nice cutaway photo which has the following caption: A BMW engine with electro-mechanical valve drive should give more revs with no float, but they want electrical power". The article discusses electrical power generation and also mentions a 42-volt electrical system.

Time permitting, I will post further details here.
