Kash,

re: "Their fixed costs next year will be much higher than this year coupled with anemic growth in unit volumes."

Assumptions.

kash, Re: Another recipe for disaster. There is already excess wafer capacity for CPU's. And intel is dumping another 7.5Bn this year into overcapacity.

The last 'disaster' in the mid 99, early 2000 was caused by doing exactly the opposite, giving VIA and AMD a chance to establish themselves. We shall see if Intel is making the right decision in 18 months.

Kash, <And intel is dumping another 7.5Bn this year into overcapacity.>

I remember listening to Andy Grove himself during an Open Forum last year. He's been through many industry cycles throughout his life at Intel. And in his view, it is always better to have too much capacity than not enough capacity.

Kash - Re: "And intel is dumping another 7.5Bn this year into overcapacity."

AMD will "enjoy" Intel's added capacity when the economy - and demand - pick up.
