Cfoe,

I'd like to extend a personal 'thank you' for going through this analysis and sharing it with the thread. Doing this sort of thing is time consuming and prob. a general pain in the a$*, and is therefore extremely appreciated.

The only comment I'd like to make is I think you're probably right in your hunch that Nextel is on board. There certainly hasn't been any concrete announcements, but if one takes the few clues we've gathered lately and stitches them together (ie, analyst prognostications, spectrum Nextel is in, help wanted ads recruiting CDMA expertise), the picture seems to point to a Nextel conversion.

Thanks again Cfoe. Discussing the merits of Q via the way of hard numbers is certainly more stimulating than discussing Q's short term stock price direction...

Nice work, cfoe & khan--very much appreciated. Have you extrapolated the numbers to the point that you would be comfortable projecting EPS for the next 12 months? Even after today's bloodbath, SI is showing the Q trading at only 450 times earnings. We all know that's a crock but it is disconcerting to see it on the damn screen all the time. I think it would be worth it to deal with a more realistic number.
I know the Q's carnage is off limits here, but I must say that in five years of following this company's fortunes I have never seen the degree of disconnect we are witnessing today. Even when the Ericsson FUD was flying fast and furious, and Tero was at full foam, Qualcomm wasn't as misunderstood as it is now. IJ must be considering never speaking in public again. The only possible interpretation of his "delay for WCDMA" forecast is so bullish for the Q that it's hard to exaggerate. When will the press and the Street get a clue? He all but said that it's game, set, and match for GSM. He predicted that the WCDMA upgrade path would come to nothing but grief and delay two years ago and when the forecast becomes reality his company's stock gets whacked--never mind that he's got the only technology that has a chance of bailing out the $100 Billion spectrum investment of the European carriers and their friendly bankers. Qualcomm is now in the enviable position of selling life jackets at a ship wreck, so naturally Deutsche Bank thinks it would be a nifty time to issue a downgrade. Good Lord. Surfer Mike
