Jacobs is denying reality. Ericsson, the company with the greatest wireless infrastructure manufacturing capability, is currently shipping WCDMA equipment (and booking WCDMA equipment revenues) and is under contract with multiple vendors to have their networks operational as soon as this summer. He is a fool to be making such claims and compromising his personal and public integrity so cavalierly. Yeah, sure, we all know that at least one WCDMA equipment vendor is obviously having trouble being able to deliver product but one Canadian vendor does not an industry make. Motorola claims that it will have a 3G device on the Japanese market by years end. Nokia plans to have 3G devices on the market in 3Q2002. Pardon my bluntness, but Jacobs doesn't know sh*t about either company's product development progress. Who is he to contradict Motorola's and Nokia's public statements? Of course, he is completely innocent of promising more than he can deliver and missing product introduction timetables by intervals best measured in years.

But why would Jacobs make such predictions if he didn't believe them to be true? After all, he is quoted as saying, "Nobody will be happier than us if W-CDMA appears on time next year." Another WCDMA proponent. God love him!
