Yup, when you are in a bunker mentality any hope is seen as the rope to get out.

I remember being stranded in the Aleutians on a hunting trip. About 20 days in the bush and waiting for the plane. 100 mph gusts and zero, zero as the aviation types like to say. We were getting all excited when this tree 20 yards away would flash into vision. -g- Needless to say, we sat there another three days waiting.
