Thanks for the exact Keynes quote. I knew it was something like that. As for newspaper beauty competitions, who's the Cornell economist who proved that "it is common knowledge that..." can function as an operator in the same way that "I know that..." functions? He was considered a shoo-in for the Nobel a few years ago, but didn't get it. Name is on the tip of my tongue... Anyway, thanks for your posts, which I always enjoy.
