"It is all a matter of perspective and bias. Back when Dell Computer (DELL, news, msgs) was the super stock, we would get dozens of hate mails if we ever said anything negative. Dell at $16? Unbelievable. Impossible. There are a lot fewer 'Dellionaires' today than there were two years ago.

We have an exercise here in our office that we sometimes run. It involves projecting charts on the conference room screen but with no names on the chart. Analysts are asked how they would play the stock without the benefit of knowing who it is. You get amazing results. Put up a chart of Juniper and everyone sees an immediate short or put play. Tell them it is Juniper and immediately there are a dozen reasons why it is going to bounce any minute. See what I mean? Chart Ciena (CIEN, news, msgs) without the name and it is ready to break down under 65 with no support until the mid-40s. Put the name on it and suddenly it is going to 100 again. They raised guidance, business is booming, the CEO said positive things on CNBC, etc. But the stock is still weak and so is the justification for going long."
