But if he doesnt catch up now, when will he ever. This is becoming a lose/lose situation. I suspect AG will try to market time his rate cut to avoid a decline much below these levels. Whether it works or not on investors or the economy for that matter as quickly as we would want remains questionable. Mike

Bear Stearns' Angell says 60 pct chance of rate cut
next week

NEW YORK, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Bear Stearns' chief economist Wayne Angell said on
Friday that there was a 60 percent chance the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates by a
half a percentage point early next week.

According to a source at Bear Stearns, Angell, a former govenor at the Federal Reserve, ``made the comment over the hoot
(internal intercom).''

The next rate-setting meeting of the Federal Reserve is scheduled for March 20
