flap,

I worked for the Japanese for 7-8 years. In a nutshell, there are some excellent things Japanese management does, but some bad things too. I think a real focus on this topic needs to address all parts of the process, not just how good managements ideas are.

I don't know if its the norm, but every single Indian I have worked with has been top notch. I don't just mean grade A, but grade A++. I have formed a friendship outside of work with one dude, and I should consider myself lucky as I have learned much from him.

Maybe the engineers from the Indian Subcontinent -g- get here because they are the best.

Try again, but start with this: My post was to you, not to Zoltan. Referring me to him is simply dodging the issue (unless you wish to say you back 100% anything he says.)

Some people are saying that you tech types are overpaid
Overpaid compared to professional rabble-rousers? I don't think so. And as another respondent pointed out, in this country we don't get the average Indian engineering graduate; we get the best of the best.

flapjack, Generally speaking the best and the brightest Engineers end up in the US and many are home grown. Engineering requires intellect and training and immersion technology participation experience. For this five minutes in world history individuals who grow up, live and are educated in the US have a hands down advantage in immersion technology participation experience.

In other countries the disparity between the have and have nots means smaller numbers have hands on with lots of stuff techno. Ultimately engineering is about seeing what's different between items and what's the same. American have the opportunity to know more about more items. In the mix of elements that make up the engineering mind this give a creative advantage to Americans. That's my theory.

Engineering = Art + Science

When the mix is right.

Of course Engineering is also about identifying the farce.

and engineering is about seeing the clear difference between a grade A American and other. mrpalau.home.dhs.org

Flap how are you ? Red WIngs are hot. Stevie is playing great and Ozgood has responded to the challenge of Legace by playing the best I have seen him play.
Flap the Indians really shoot a hole into the Jesse Jackson camp. The worst crap I have ever heard was Fiorina (politically correct CEO of HP) complaining about the lack of diversity in Silicon Valley saying it should be like the NBA. The NBA which has white and African Americans is diverse? What's she smoking ? Contrast that to Silicon Valley which has whites,Asians,Phillipineos, Indians etc etc. I led a team on a project that had the following. One Mexican,one African American girl,one East Indian,one American Indian , 2 right wing conservatives and 2 left wing liberals. We all did a great job and loved the project. Now that is diversity.
Last I looked the programmers of India are "PEOPLE OF COLOR". Are Jesse and Fiorina blind. Or is that Indians are "NOT THE RIGHT KIND OF COLOR" ?
By the way the Indians have started numerous companies and are successful CEO's and they didnt get their by affirmative action but by their own merit and efforts.
Also as regards to paying them less they often are put into compound like places and have artificially created very low standards of living. Once they break away from their visa/contracts they earn the same pay as others. I work for an exclusive group that has a small number of talented people that isn't seeking to grow rapidly but will add people when we find the right talent. Those 2 right wing conservatives I mentioned brought a number of Indian programmers into our group.
