Yes I read it and was reminded of it later yesterday evening while reading this article from WinMag.

Wrong or Missing Icons on Desktop
Sometimes Windows seems to get confused and uses the wrong icons for some files. The problem is usually due to a corrupt ShellIconCache file. Article Q132668 tells you how to fix the problem.
