<<other than not needing it, how do you like it?>>

Actually I used the Ricochet 28.8 service intensively during my unlamented days as an employed geek. For real-time trading from work. The service has always been way slower than advertised... I often got maybe 5 out of the advertised 28.8 kbits/s. (Sadly, that was actually faster than my employee internet access from my 4-processor, 1-Gbyte, 6-disk-RAID Sun mega-workstation).

From my very limited usage, the 128k service is faster than the 28.8, but nowhere near a real 128k. Maybe if you sit under the right lamppost at 4am you can get the rated speed, I dunno.

I drove up I-880 from San Jose to Fremont a couple of times with realtime stock quotes running in the passenger seat... it actually kept working the whole journey. So the hand-off technology is as good as cell phones. I vividly remember that incredible Nasdaq day on 4/4/00... the 650-point intraday rollercoaster. I pulled over into a Macdonalds parking lot in Milpitas and went back from 50% to 200% invested from my car. Saved my a$$ that day.

Overall I maybe added 5-10% to my trading profits during the height of the mania because of the realtime access. So it definitely paid for itself.

Sprint/Verizon offer the service now as well. Just plug your Cell phone in. Also 64K coming later this year. 128K next year.
