“Up to nine months ago we had no European interest in cdma2000. Now, after the public
failure of GPRS to
deliver on time and to its promised performance levels
, we are starting to receive calls.”

This should have come out yesterday and we would have probably been up instead of plunging.

The nine months IJ mentions is the time frame in which Doocmo's system and the one in spain (due out in august) fall into. So by sept/oct the EU carriers will start to feel their shirt collars start shrinking.
Can you imagine the panic at AWE when an EU carrier goes 1xEV!

Situation at present

1. GPRS- deployed but non functional.
2. WCDMA due out in may and august but expect to be a repeat of GPRS. Could be 4 years before anybody gets it right.
3. Java enabled handsets have auotmatic shut down when talk button is depressed.
4. Eu carriers over spent and must over spend to implement chosen technology that doesn't work or doesn't exist.
5. 1X is here and working, 1xEV will be by end of year.
