Excuse me for butting in but I am a corn producer. As far as ethanol, the alcohol does cost more per calorie of energy, than gasoline. Not much at the corn/gasoline prices of today though. What the advantage of ethanol amounts to is that it's an oxygenater. That is it makes the gasoline burn cleaner and reduces smog better than MTBE without the bad effects.
