Hmmm, well, mainly I've been taking my cue from Bill Fleckenstein re. the selling climax theory, not CNBC et. al. Re. the DOJ, I don't really swallow the idea that their action against MSFT precipitated this market decline, I think the seeds were there beforehand. I'll blame the DOJ for MSFT's fall from 120 to 70ish, but the rest of the decline and that of the general market I would lay at the door of the current earnings growth environment. My powder, like yours apparently, is very very dry indeed. But I'd like to see some sign that the Naz downtrend has really reversed and that the energy problems are waning before wading back in. Valuations are still very high, and we seem to be replaying the fall that presaged the 70s bear. And remember I live here in California so I'm painfully aware that this energy mess is going to be with us for months if not years to come. Thus far no matter what I've sold over the past year I've eventually had cause to be thankful (though the taxman is biting deep this year).
