The interesting point is that GOLD is only up to 261. Back in the fall of 1999 it did pierce above 300. Im not saying that GOLD will take off for good, but with all the shorts on GOLD there could be a significant short-squeeze soon. Im no expert in GOLD, but am noticing that as sentiment towards the US stock market/economy declines, gold stocks are moving up. What is also interesting is that during the recent runup in gold stocks, the US DOLLAR has also been moving up; however the USD is now near a short/mid-term peak. If the USD starts dropping soon that should also help the gold stocks move up more.
