Cirrus, re servers and AMD making any headway, I suppose you have to try, but beating your head against a stone wall can get painful and expensive. One of AMD's most loyal defenders is arguing that AMD ought to throw it in WRT servers (below). Infrastructure, not AMD's strong point, is even more important in servers, and Serverworks is completely booked for a while with all the new Intel chips coming. Via, or someone like that, I don't know. I'm not saying they'll never make it, but the server business is going to be a very high wall for AMD to climb. Too many people seem to think that just because they release a server-worthy chip, they're in...doesn't work that way. I expect AMD to put up a serious challenge in notebooks, though. - Tony

I think it might be better for AMD if they weren't targeting servers at all. So far all efforts in this direction were wasted and could have been used in other areas much better. There's already enough potential in the consumer and business market, and since AMD has limited resources they should use them where they are needed most. Servers are another "league" and extremely difficult to enter, especially if there's almost no presence in the business space. Not targeting the server market (for now) is IMO a small price to pay for the potential success in other areas. Imagine e.g. where we would today if AMD had released the mobile Athlon/Duron in time or if there had been better infrastructure support. [end of rant]
