hdl, which is better, to have money in money market funds which are still there in six months or in a year? Or in the stock market where people have just learned the hard way that money in stocks is not "savings" and it can simply vanish as trillions of dollars already have? You forget how many people actually like knowing that there money is going to be there in six months or a year. They are fed up with stocks and they are sick about all the money they have lost. They are not "piling money on the sidelines" -- they are taking it out of stocks and are likely to keep it out of stocks. There is zero reason to be believe this money is headed for stocks.
