Perhaps if we look at the " act " of conception

I have trouble getting my head around an act of conception. Conception seems to me more a potential result of an act of sex. I can see conception as an act when people are undergoing fertility treatment, but that's pretty rare. It was useful early in human history to have offspring produced as a byproduct of something fun. I'm not sure that serves us well any more.
