Jim, at dinner last night with some friends, prior to attending a recital by Freddie Cole (brother of Nat King) at the Lincoln Center Juliard Penthouse, discussion turned at one point to the California power situation (no, I did not initiate) and the NY ISO position.

The group chat had a tenor that was reminiscent of another era, when there was a rush to build family-sized bomb shelters, some forty-odd years ago. I can see where the present power-related issue can lead to a rise in such a bunker mentality, perhaps prematurely. Seen it before.

As we talked I glanced outside the window of the Greek Restaurant and tried to visualize how the apartment building residents on 70th St. and Columbus Avenue could join the movement to power independence. I tried to visualize an exhaust vent below every under-sized bathroom window, stacked one atop another, up twenty six stories.

In an area where not everyone can find or afford a high-three-digit monthly parking space, they are now installing apartment-sized fuel cells? Then again, it was only a short while ago when only the police and other emergency vehicles - and those with diplomatic license tags - had two-way wireless phones.
