I will second your point. The US steel industry was nearly killed by the unions. Union membership is now at an all time low. The only hope for the unions now is to become a government empolyee union. That is why they fight so vehemently against tax cuts but never argue for spending restraint. The unions have been spending tens of millions of dollars on every election cycle, all targeted against republicans. They are making enemies when they never needed friends more. Union members should revolt against the leaders who have systematically put them in such a mess.

I would agree with some of what you say about the auto industry. Entrenched union bureaucracies turn out to be not much different from any other bureaucracy-they become increasingly self-serving and narrow-minded. OTOH, the pressure the auto industry has been putting on its suppliers is what is driving businesses into Mexico and costing jobs.

As for the traditional union adversarial stance, all I think you have to do is look at history to understand how that position has evolved.

<<You do make a good argument for eliminating the corporate income tax>>

Good point. Corporate federal income tax should be phased out.
