flap,

A fair and reasoned response.

I can only say that your definition of bashing might be part of the problem. If I bash something it is usually because I already have a firm opinion established that provides a base from which to do so.

I am against taxes. Just about all of them. Not because taxes are bad, but because we have had enough of them for long enough. Most of us here would agree that lots of our tax dollars are wasted or slated for purposes we might not agree with.

We disagree on how tax cuts should be made, and to whom.

One note from a post of yours a few weeks back. Most of the millionaires in the States get there in one generation. This idea about "old money" types is just not accurate. Ever read "The Millionaire Next Door"? I think you would find it a very interesting book.

Good Luck

TH

Clinton, of course, was and is the main bashing target. Gore was right up there during the election, but one doesn't read many
attacks against him these days. Hillary and Jesse Jackson probably run 2-3 now. And then there's the union-bashing,
minority-bashing, and some occasional female-bashing.

"Bashing" people with monolithic positions is tit for tat. They could sick the IRS, FBI, or NOW on their opponents. They have large access to the press and use and abuse it regularly. Tell me how a "bashing" on SI compares to the outlets of those mentioned above.

Dan Burton, ...I have no use for hypocrites of his ilk.

He is your favorite hypocrite I see. Should he not represent his constituents because he is a hypocrite? There would be a lot of thumb-twiddling on both sides of the aisle in this case.

Lexus-muffler debate
Facts reveal the wealthy actually pay taxes so a tax cut would naturally benefit them. Any other proposal is re-distribution of wealth. Large government is the real nemesis for the poor and rich. It is inefficient (despite Clinton"s claim that he can spend your money better than you can) and do not have the standing to create equality except in the narrowest ways defined in the Constitution. I'm not sure it bothers others but I'm bothered that bureaucracies never seem to go away but in fact breed. If middle class conservatives feel the tax cut is fair why should they argue otherwise. Oh, I know, just to prove they aren't mean and hate the poor.

Rush fix

Keep painting with the broad brush and you will get the same treatment. Dissecting issues is a personal responsibility.

Have you tried the Left Wing Debate Society and Boxing Thread? Mostly, I think they are the Left Wing Parlor, as opposed to Porch, so attitudes are not that different. It is a place to indulge your "drug of choice" and pretend to take the high road. I don't think you would like it there.

It's seems impossible to "bash" business (they're so greedy), the "moral majority", or men in general. It is self-evident, they are evil, and card carrying members of the vast right-wing-conspiracy.

Do you think there is much to Sowell's claim that the sides of the debate have such basically different core beliefs, constrained vs. unconstrained that we hit the wall on solutions.

Bashing? Look, we don't happen to agree with the people you mentioned. Did you expect us to say we did?

Clinton? Gore? Shrillary? Jesse? You may call it bashing; I call it good taste. :-)

Look, if you want to hear praise of those clowns, go over to the Left Wing Porch. You won't get it here.

union-bashing: I have never been in a union and don't want to be. I'll take care of myself, thanks. Others should have the right to organize if they choose; they should not have the right to exclude me from employment anywhere if I don't join. Or to take my money against my will.

minority-bashing: I have nothing against minorities; affirmative action should be ended NOW and made illegal. It is simply discrimination with a different target and again legalized.

female-bashing: I don't recall any instances of attacks on women generally. There have been unkind things said about specific females of the other political persuasion. Do you expect us to praise their views?
