Obviously Hugh is trying to rationalize pulling the plug at these levels.

Hey Duh, I note they didn't sell the railroad company! Instead they spun Quest off. Just as Ampex should have done with iNextTV when internet IPO's were getting wild valuations. Yet another missed opportunity. Also it would have been dumb to sell off the telegraph business cause that business made money well into the 1960's I belive. So you are talking apples and oranges.

You know I am pretty sure that the Ampex excutives spend most of their time throwing darts.

Quest deal won't mean anything. Nobody will watch the boring Ampex videos.

Jubimer...thanks for the Qwest/USWest post. I think everybody should sit back and look at what the pioneer spirit did in this country over the last 300 years. Today we are pioneering still... but the acceleration of the spirit is achieving incredible results in time.

Perhaps we all should stand back a bit from the forest here as you allude...and see all these saplings...and just imagine what sequoias they might become.

I wouldn't stand on that spot too long Hugh.

Jubimer,

Like you, I am a believer in the digital streaming media future. Here are a couple of stats and some comments.

1. Streaming media software services are expected to grow rapidly from a $1.3Billion overall market today to
over $10.4 Billion by 2004. (US Bancorp Piper Jaffray - Digital Infrastructure 1.0)
2. 50% of all web sites will have streaming media components by the end of 2001 (Gartner Group)

If I look at that and the a] 2006 FCC ruling mandate to digitize content as well as b] Bandwidth availability and
declining acquisition, production and distribution costs; I am led to think that we will have a very digital media
rich future.

My issue with Ampex is that I believe they need to broaden their horizon to include other venues. E.g., they should
get away from the TV metaphor and look at other rich media applications. The financial markets come to mind as does e-learning and other verticals where people spend real money to use video.

In any case, lets see what happens

Thure
