Beautiful Rudi, my very own DDCL, I have been through parts of Nyack many times. Some parts are beautiful, some are not. The view of the Hudson River from the heights on the Western side of the river is gorgeous. Helen Hayes lived there for many years. The Hudson is one of the most beautiful rivers in the U.S. In the 1800s it was the subject of many paintings. The artists became known as the Hudson School. I first saw Nyack about 70 years ago. The city was astride a major north/south highway of the time-U.S. Route 9W, a narrow, winding one lane road. That road still exists, only slightly improved. Interstate 87 now cuts East/West through it. From '57 through '72 I lived in Westchester County, near Tarrytown, and drove through Nyack frequently, but mostly on the Interstate. Both Rockland County and Westchester County were scenes of historic events during the Revolutionary War. White Plains, in Westchester County, was Washington's HQ for a time and was the site of a major battle. Some of the captors of Major Andre (the British spy who conspired with Benedict Arnold) came from the small village where my children went to elementary and high school. I believe Major Andre was tried and hanged in Rockland County. I will stop now, after telling you more than you wanted to know about Nyack and neighboring places. Oh! One more bit of trivia. Tarrytown is the place where The Headless Horseman rode. Washington Irving lived in...you guessed right...Irvington, which is just south of Tarrytown.

Your very own DDCL,

Sy
