Gottfried,

There is nothing about a DDR chipset which requires more power than SDRAM. Power consumption in CMOS circuits is a function of switching, and DDR switches the same amount of times as SDRAM in transmitting the same data. The lower voltages of DDR allow for lower voltages and power consumption on the bus, so a DDR controller will also likely consume less power than an SDRAM controller.
