....they could have scored brownie points by dealing with the issue in a prompt and humane fashion.
Mike, the phrase "humane fashion" are not typically used in the same sentence in describing the actions of a government, at least here in the states. Cannot speak for our friends north of the border.

Live donation became subject of controversy

The family received more than $200,000 in donations to cover the cost of having the surgery performed in the United States, but
last week Camilo's father, Jerry Ewen, admitted the operation could have been performed in Canada.

Sally Greenwood, of the B.C. Transplant Society, said: "We didn't fail; the Canadian system didn't fail. Now we find out that this
person [donor] was partially assessed in Canada and this was one of the people we were willing to act upon. We would have
gone ahead and done the transplant and that would have been covered through medicare and the transplant society."

Ms. Greenwood said the public had been given inaccurate information about the transplant situation "and may have been
somewhat led astray.
