Oh, I think everyone has about written off the first half of 2001. The only question is whether we get a rebound in the second half, and nobody has any idea. It seems like, in every conference call (and in every pre-earnings warning) there is the refrain, "zero visibility". I've posted my reasoning in detail on the AMAT thread, for shorting AMAT at 49. The bad news rolls up the supply chain: telecom service, to telecom equip, to makers of chips for telecom equip, and then to.......chip equipment companies. WCOM to NT/LU/CSCO to TXN to AMAT. As the bad news hits, every company in the affected sector gives back the entire 1999-2000 gains. Until the bad news hits, there is hope, which keeps the stocks up (relatively, not absolutely).
