christopher before i shut down for the evening, i at least wanted to provide a couple links to similar posts. #reply-13829446 & #reply-14013868 on the second one we were trying to track down something specific. on the first one we were looking at redundancy and/or waste. anyway, it's something for you to peruse. i will be back with you on this topic tomorrow, or someone else will jump in. looks like the whole process has started you asking yourself some good questions. <g> we like that! i'll certainly share my views on the norton stuff. good luck :) mark

To continue NPROTECT- Two instances are not necessary, uncheck one WinAmpAgent- why preload? (uncheck) "CSINJECT. EXE -- loads from the Norton Cleansweep directory. Hmmm -- do I really need cleansweep to be open all the time when I only load programs rarely?"--you said it, I agree RNAAPP.exe, and NMAIN.EXE and WS LOADER and TAPISRV.EXE Those are programs you are currently running. Don't worry about them. RNAAPP is your modem NMAIN is norton TAPISRV- I believe this is part of your dialup for the modem....could be wrong

christopher here are some of my recs <below, in brackets> to add to my previous post and to posts from other thread members. i would tend to go for aggressive shutting down of some of these items and later going back in to restart them if you find the need to do so. therein lies the beauty of the system configuration utility. keep in mind that even after unchecking those items you wish to preclude from starting up, a few will return due to either individual program preference settings that override scu, or registry entries that do the same thing. like a waitress with a bad memory, they just keep coming back. a quick note... previously i have had scanregistry turned off at startup, but i have since switched it back on. ****************************** ScanRegistry Task Monitor <uncheck> System Tray LoadPowerProfile -- rundll32.exe powerprof.dll,LoadcurrentPwrScheme <uncheck> RealTray <uncheck> Cookie Pal -- (I LOVE this program. Best $15 I ever spent.
