No, it may make no sense to impoverish a murderer's wife and children and of course I wouldn't propose that. It's speculative to say if this is much of an issue at all since I never conceived a murderer's assets were going to part of the solution. I re-read Steven's post and it still leaves me thinking he was proposing some compromise based on society's demands. I thought he was sincere, but I will take your word for what he really believes.

Mostly I'm interested to see if there is any argument in the middle at present or if it only exists at the polar extremes. I find this polarity may exist in the issue of schools also. My wife teaches special ed. in high school and (making allowances for her school being particularly ineffective) she senses the administration, union, students, parents and teachers all have a "bunker" mentality that seeks to place blame. I sense you're pretty happy in your teaching position and wish my wife would have chosen to teach in elementary schools.
