Bob,

Jasmine is from Computer Associates (or as Larry Ellison calls it, "The place where software goes to die"). However, this does not alter the thrust of your argument.

Dozens of times I have seen people get interested in ObjectStore, but when they find out about the pricing, they lose interest. The "sticker shock" of finding out that the per-user costs are (or at least seem to be) about an order of magnitude higher than Microsoft SQL Server is a very effective way of exterminating people's interest.

There are also plenty of cases where the IT department simply vetoes evaluation because ODBMS seems too new and different. Putting price up as another barrier is what led to last year's "excellent" financial results (to quote the CEO). Shareholders will have to hope that the company is not going to re-double its "pursuit of excellence" in the future.
