At least we pay lip service. I would argue that in the past we didn't care about relationships at all- not in the way I use the term relationships anyway. I agree most people live life by a cookbook- usually from an organized religion- and that IS a problem. IMO the easy answers that come out of a cookbook do not give you the tools to lead a satisfying life. They tempt you to lead an unexamined life- and that is the big mistake. Once you embrace a way of life that entails illusion, it's hard to embrace reality. But to have a real and happy relationship with a person that lasts more than a year or two, you need to embrace reality- imo.
