US DVD player sales up 54.5%, in the latest week. I hope inventory is moving down..........................

Vital Statistics - 2/27/2001
DVD-Video title sales exploded for the week of Valentine’s Day, ending Feb. 18, 2001. According to VideoScan’s First Alert Reporting Retailers, sales for the week were 2,166,000, up significantly from the previous week’s sales of 1,771,000. Year-to-date sales are 13,872,000!

DVD player sales also remain strong. According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) for the week ending Feb. 16, 2001, DVD player unit sales to dealers were 117,682, up 54.5 percent over this week’s sales in 2000 sales, and up from last week’s sales of 89,623. Month-to-date sales are 390,314, up 110.6 percent over February 2000 sales and year-to-date sales are 962,345, up 73.3 percent over 2000 sales.

By contrast, VCR deck sales for the week were 145,827, down (-32.7) percent from sales during this week in 2000. Month-to-date sales are 789,629, up only 8.9 percent from February 2000 sales and year-to-date sales are 1,549,849, down (-16.4) percent from 2000 sales.
