I think that cooks it just right is all. <g> but I don't quite grasp why someone would want to char something as tender and succulent as a spear of asparagus picked at just the time. Maybe I'll try to find it.

Re:Marshmallows
I've wondered that too. My kids love to catch them on fire.
It may be because when they were little, Dan always got his flaming and then held it aloft and pretended to be the Statue of Liberty.
"Give me your tired, your poor..."
After a few recitations, we all just rolled our eyes and ignored him, but it may be that the burned marshies technique stayed with them.
I, on the other hand, carefully tan mine evenly all over.

I blow it out, eat the charred skin, then do it again. Is it an aggression thing? An impulsivity thing? Thoughts?

I wouldn't presume to use the degree to which one cooks food as a kind of Rorsach test. I could, however, make some judgments about the state of your taste buds.

I don't understand how anyone could eat anything charred. There's very little that I won't eat: licorice, coffee, and char are the only ones I can think of. No charbroiled steaks, marshmallows roasted to a a nice rose-beige, baked goods with no hint of brown.

I guess you and I won't be eating in each other's homes any time soon.

Karen

marshmallows

I sloooowly roast them to mouth watering perfection

turning, turning, turning, not to close to the fire, till they are golden brown and the inside is all toasty gooey

then I give it away to an appreciative drooler

I absolutely hate marshmallows, but love the bonfires
