I remember that, though the particular sentiments seem to have shown up in many different contexts. Strangely, though, the "joy through suffering" crowd does seem to be mostly RWET types. The most succinct statement I came up with was sent to E on PCAT, from that most profound of SI posters, AJ. You can't truly know joy if you have not suffered. Message 15342390 Poor E got a lot of flack from somebody else for disputing that odd premise too, much less succinctly.
