What you miss is the essential difference between the proposed recount and this one. This was done by a public accounting firm while Gore wanted one done in secret by democrat operatives

willcousa, I'm sure Gore did want a count done in secret by democratic operatives. Unfortunately for him, the state of Florida required the count to be done by the canvassing board, in public, with observers from both parties present. And that's how it was done.
