DirectTV and EchoStar are two examples of the one to many broadcast model that are commercially successful and Iridium and GlobalStar are examples of a two way many to many model that failed. The Iridium and Globalstar experiance may not hold for rural satellite broadband. Having recently moved to the rural world, I have been forced to from DSL speeds to 28k dialup. I am suffering from DSL withdrawl. There is definately a market for Satellite broadband here in the sticks but the question is, like Satellite Telephony, are their too few of us to make it pay for the providers?
